Week 52 - December 30 - 13 Players
Steve Brown is officially our 2010 player of the year... Tonight, Dave Wetzell defeated Ron Kompelien in the finals and Bob Schumacher defeated Jeff Nitschke in the consolations. Our top five are: 1st Steve Brown, 2nd Duane Jensen, 3rd Hugh Morris, 4th Jesse Eaton & 5th Yury Millman.
Week 51 - December 23 - 11 Players
Buybacks tonight with 11 players... Jeff Nitschke joined us - his first visit in about 10 months. With one week left, Hugh solidified 3rd place by defeating Steve Brown in the finals. He could pass Duane and finish 2nd if he wins next week and Duane scores less than one point. Currently in 4th place, Jesse could be passed by Yury with a win & less than 1 point for Jesse.
Week 50 - December 16 - 12 Players
NO buybacks tonight, we had 12 players tonight; including a blast from the past. New Yorker, Nancy Batsell, is back in Minnesota again - she played with us a few time when we played at Pracna On Main. Eric defeated her in the first round & she lost to Duane in the consolations. David Dinville defeated Jesse in the finals and Steve Cherne defeated Duane for the consolation win. With 2 weeks left, Steve Brown is our 2010 player of the year, he can’t be caught - he is 5.15 points ahead of 2nd place, Duane. Only Hugh has a chance to finish ahead of Duane for 2nd place; 3rd 4th & 5th places are up for grabs...
Week 49 - December 2 - 11 Players
Buybacks again tonight, bad weather again... Steve Cherne defeated Jesse for the win tonight - David Dinville & Steve Binenstock tied for third.
Week 48 - December 2 - 10 Players
Buybacks tonight, Bob Schumacher defeated Ron Kompelien in the finals, Mitch Reed & David Dinville tied for third. Jesse, Ed & I were in the air headed to LA for the last ABT tournament of the year. Jesse cashed by winning the Advanced consolation title and the side pool. Ed did OK and I had the coldest dice possible... :-(
Week 47 - November 25 - 6 Players
Steve Brown wins Nov player of the month - Steve still holds a 5 points lead over second place Duane with 5 weeks left to play in 2010... Six players; Me, Yury, Hugh, Ed, Eric & Steve Cherne all braved the snowy weather to play on Thanksgiving eve. We played a round robin with Hugh defeating Steve Cherne for the win.
Week 46 - November 18 - 16 Players
Steve Brown wins again, tonight he defeated Jim Pokela - Jim hasn’t been around since he got married 3 months ago... I guess he’s been busy wink wink nod nod, know what I mean... :-) 2nd place Duane is now almost 5 points back. Yury defeated Ralph in the consolation finals.
Week 45 - November 11 - 14 Players
Veteran’s Day - All of our players participated in the Legions program tonight, including Jeb Horton, who was in town this week. It was the battle of the Titans in the finals, Duane vs Steve Brown, with Steve the victor. Steve now has a 3+ point lead over 2nd place Duane. Once again Ed was in the consolation finals, with Steve Binenstock scoring the victory
Week 44 - November 4 - 18 Players 1 New
It was great to see Fred tonight and he brought a new player; Jermaine Marshall - welcome Jermaine. Jermaine is relatively new to the game and has no cube experience, but we hope to see more of you in the weeks to come. Jermaine was defeated by Jesse in his first match and Phil B. in the consolations. Yury comes up 1 short for the 2nd week in a row, he was defeated by Mitch in the finals... According to “The Judge” The consolation finals was hellofamatch with the underdog getting the win! Translation - Ed defeated Bob.
Week 43 - October 28 - 16 Players
Duane is on fire... Tonight he defeated Yury in the finals, and with 5 points in Oct he is player of the month. He out scored #1 Steve Brown by over 4 points this month and is now in 2nd place less than 2 points behind Steve.
Week 42 - October 21 - 18 Players
Tonight is Steve Cherne’s 2nd week back from Montana & David Dinville’s 1st back from Phoenix, and Ahmet showed up after a 3 month hiatus... Duane slipped past Hugh, back into 2nd place tonight when he defeated Ahmet in the finals. Jesse defeated Hugh in the consolation final, but Hugh maintains a 2.6 point lead over Jesse.
Week 41 - October 14 - 18 Players
Hugh made it to the finals again, where he was defeated by Jesse - but 1 point was enough for him to move past Duane into 2nd place. With the win tonight, Jesse jumped from 7th place to 4th pushing Steve Binenstock, Yury, & Eric each down one position in the player of the year standings.
Week 40 - October 7 - 13 Players
Last week, I neglected to mention and congratulate Hugh Morris for being our September player of the month. I suspect many of our players stayed home tonight to watch the Twins get out played by the dreaded Yankees... In the finals; Kevin Ahtou defeated Bob, Steve Brown and Duane for the win to night. In the consolation finals (5 point match) Bob was ahead 3 to 1 when he gave me a cube - it was not a take unless you look at the clock & realize that there’s not enough time for me to win the next 2 games in order to win the match so with Bob saying “Oh no don’t do that,” I took then gave him the cube back at 4. Bob had five checkers off when I got the late hit with a closed board... Yes, David wins... Yah...
Week 39 - September 30 - 15 Players
Steve Brown has a solid 6 point lead for player of the year - however, 2nd place is hotly contested. Tonight Duane defeated Hugh in the semi finals and then Steve Binenstock in the finals for the win. Hugh is in 2nd place with 18.14 and in 3rd Duane has 18.12 just .02 points behind. Finishing 2nd tonight Binenstock jumped over Yury & Eric from 6th place to 4th place with 15.08 points. In the consolations I fought hard, but Ralph got the best of me...
Week 38 - September 23 - 19 Players - 1 New
Ed Dickson joined us tonight for his first live tournament; he did very well, defeating Duane in the first round, then I defeated Ed in the second round. Dave Wetzell dispatched Ed in the consolations - Hope we see you again Ed... The Tournament Director Wins tonight, I defeated Steve Brown in the finals. Yury got the best of Ed Ziesche in the consolation finals.
Week 37 - September 16 - 16 Players
At the risk of repeating myself... Hugh wins again, he defeated BS aka Steve Binenstock in the finals. Hugh takes the lead for player of the month, and passed Duane for 2nd place behind Steve Brown, who defeated Jaffer in the consolation finals - good show Jaffer; getting past Eric, Ed, and Duane.
Week 36 - September 9 - 15 Players
Hugh wins again, he defeated Kevin in the finals. Steve Brown is hard enough to defeat once, tonight Eric did it twice. They met in the first round and then again in the consolation finals. With 3 points, Eric is the leader for player of the month.
Week 35 - September 2 - 15 Players - 2 New
Wow, 4 new players in the last month... Tonight Evan Hall and Gregg Trunnell joined us for the first time. Depending on how you look at it, Even got a great lesson when he was lucky or unlucky to draw Steve Brown in the first round. He was defeated by Kevin in his next match in the consolations. Gregg did well, he scored .5 points tonight by defeating Jaffer and Kyle then he was defeated by Rick in the quarter finals. Rick was defeated in the finals by Eric tonight’s winner. Kyle won the consolations by defeating Steve Reichelt
Week 34 - August 26th - 20 Players
It’s great to see Brian Cosgrove-Payne join us again tonight, we are always looking for new young players... Speaking of young players, Mitch made it to the finals again tonight where he was defeated by Hugh. Geoff, another young player, made it to the consolation finals where I was lucky enough to defeat him.
Week 33 - August 19th - 16 Players - 1 New
Welcome to Brian Cosgrove-Payne who joined us tonight, he is a young new player and we hope he will keep playing... Ralph defeated Steve Brown in the finals and Duane defeated Jesse in the consolations.
Week 32 - August 12th - 17 Players - 1 New
Welcome to Jaffer Batica who joined us tonight for his first live tournament... In the finals, Eric defeated Kevin and in the consolations, Jesse trounced me, David.
Week 31 - August 5th - 13 Players
Jesse defeated Bob for the win tonight and Yury defeated Ralph for the consolation win. Several players have mentioned their desire to find a quieter venue for our Thursday tournaments, send me an e-mail & tell me what you think...
Week 30 - July 29th - 17 Players
Steve Brown wins July player of the month with 5.5 points. He holds a 6 point over 2nd place Duane and an 8 point lead over 3rd place Yury, in the race for player of the year. Tonight CA visitor Art Grater defeated Duane for the win. Eric defeated Ed in the consolation bracket.
Week 29 - July 22nd - 17 Players
Rick Davis wins tonight, defeating Ed, who made it to the finals for the 2nd week in a row, only to finish 2nd again. Getting his 5th point for the month, Steve Brown defeated Jesse in the consolations.
Week 28 - July 15th - 12 Players
This week, it was Ed Ziesche and Steve Brown in the finals with the same result as last week, Steve Brown wins. Hugh and Jesse battled in the consolation with Jesse getting the win...
Week 27 - July 8th - 17 Players
In the finals tonight, Steve Brown defeated Bob while Duane defeated Steve Binenstock in the consolations.
Week 26 - July 1st - 8 Players
Many of our players went to Carol Joy’s Tournament in MI, others are on vacation... In fact, Yury was late tonight - his plane from Tokyo landed about an hour before out tournament tonight & he managed to finish 1st by defeating Bob in the finals, while Kevin defeated Mitch in the consolation bracket.
Week 25 - June 24th - 13 Players
Mitch made it to the finals again, where he was defeated by Steve Brown. In the consolation finals, Steve Cherne defeated Ed.
Week 24 - June 17th - 12 Players
As Snoopy would write - Once upon a Stormy Night... Mitch defeated Yury in the finals and for the 2nd week in a row Hugh & I battled, this time in the consolation finals - this week Hugh wins... ...the bum :-)
Week 23 - June 10th - 16 Players
Welcome back Forest Green who made his first appearance of the year tonight. In the finals, I defeated Hugh and took the lead for player of the month. Steve Brown and Rick did not play their consolation final match, so I split the point between them and will record a change if they play their match next week.
Week 22 - June 3rd - 11 Players
It must be summer!!! 11 players tonight - which means buybacks... Steve Brown defeated me in the first round & I took the 1st buyback then defeated Ron, Eric & Bob - only to meet Steve Brown again, in the finals where Steve wins again...
Week 21 - May 27th - 14 Players
Memorial Weekend - low turnout... Last weeks consolation finalists meet in the finals tonight, with the same result - Steve Binenstock defeated Dave Wetzel. With this win, Binenstock scored 5.5 points this month and he leap frogs Duane & Brown to take the year to date lead - Congratulations BS... Kevin defeated Dan Yaman in the consolation finals.
Week 20 - May 20th - 19 Players
Steve Brown lost in the quarter finals to Jesse, but it was enough to pass Duane for the top position on the current leader board... Yury Defeated Jesse for the win tonight and Steve Binenstock defeated Dave Wetzel in the consolation finals.
Week 19 - May 13th - 17 Players
Mitch wins tonight, he defeated Rick in the finals. Jesse defeated Kyle for the consolation win.
Week 18 - May 6th - 24 Players
Wow, a full bracket of 24 Players... Jesse wins last weeks consolation. Larry Lesniak joined us tonight; he played with the club in the early days some 25+ years ago - welcome back. Steve Binenstock defeated Steve Cherne for the win tonight. Bob won the consolations by defeating David Dinville.
Week 17 - Apr 29th - 20 Players
Congratulations Hugh, he is April’s player of the month... Time ran out tonight for Bob & Jesse in the consolation finals, Their scores reflect a split of the winners 1 point - Should they finish the match, both scores will change. In the finals, Yury defeated Ralph.
Week 16 - Apr 22nd - 19 Players
Great group tonight - Hugh made it to the finals again this week where he was defeated by Duane. Duane moves back to 1st place & jumps from 5th to 3rd. In the consolations, Ralph defeated Jesse.
Week 15 - Apr 15th - 12 Players - 1 New
Low turnout tonight, I guess there are a few players finishing their taxes... And, a few others went to the Vegas tournament... Jonathan Engstrom joined us tonight - he has played with the club in Springfield IL. Hugh wins tonight, he defeated Yury and the consolation was a battle of the David’s - with Dinville defeating me, Minikus...
There is a discussion about staying at the Legion and not returning to Majors, soon to reopen as Ciento, a Tequila Bar & Mexican Kitchen - What do you think?
Week 14 - Apr 8th - 18 Players
Eric defeated Ron Kompelien in the finals and Mitch defeated Hugh in the consolations
Week 13 - Apr 1st - 17 Players
Steve Brown defeated Jesse for the win and David Dinville defeated Bob in the consolations. Next week we move to our temporary home, Chester Bird Legion at Hwy 100 & Glenwood Ave in Golden Valley.
Week 12 - Mar 25th - 18 Players
Congratulations Duane; despite choosing not to play amid the noise and chaos at Majors tonight, Duane is player of the month again. Kyle defeated Rick in the finals and Hugh defeated Bob in the consolations.
Week 11 - Mar 18th - 17 Players
Congratulations to Mitch, he defeated Steve Brown, Ed, Ron, and Bob for the win tonight. Ed & Kevin met in the consolation finals, but due to time constraints, they split.
Week 10 - Mar 11th - 16 Players
Congratulations to Eric Hiner, he had his best showing tonight - he defeated Lane, Mary, Duane, then Dave Wetzel for the win. Eric is currently # 1 for the month... In the consolations, Bob defeated Ron.
Week 9 - Mar 4th - 20 Players
Phil Williams joined us tonight after a long absence & Jim Pokela returned for his first time this year... Steve Binenstock defeated Duane in the finals and I defeated Hugh in the consolation finals. Jim Noren had his best showing tonight - after a first round bye he defeated Jesse then Steve Brown then Jim was defeated by Duane - Congratulations Jim.
Week 8 - Feb 25th - 23 Players - 2 New
Huge turnout tonight... Congratulations Duane, our Feb Player of the month... Gretchen & Caitlin Gilbert, mother & daughter, joined us tonight. Caitlin lost to Steve Brown in her first match, & was defeated by her mom in her second! Gretchen was defeated by David Dinville in her first match - she defeated Sam in her second & lost to Yury in her third. Steve Brown defeated Ralph in the finals & David Dinville defeated Eric in the consolation.
Week 7 - Feb 18th - 18 Players
Duane wins again... Duane is having a great month, he defeated Steve Brown in the finals tonight. With 1 week to go, Duane has 5 points this month, 2 wins plus a consolation win. Mitch defeated Yury in the consolation finals.
Week 6 - Feb 11th - 17 Players
Welcome back to Andrew Mack who transferred back from Chicago. Steve Binenstock defeated Jesse in the finals to jump from 8th to 1st place. In consolations, Duane defeated David Dinville and with 3 points, Duane still holds the player of the month honor.
Week 5 - Feb 4th - 17 Players - 1 New
Sam Lemon joined us tonight, he lost to Ed in his first match & Jeff in his next, Sam says he will return... In the finals, Duane cleaned my clock 7-1... Dave Wetzel defeated Ed in the consolation.
Week 4 - Jan 28th - 17 Players
David Dinville won his first tournament tonight by defeating Ron in the finals. Bob defeated Steve Binenstock in the consolations.
Week 3 - Jan 21st - 14 Players
Dave Wetzel defeated Steve Binenstock in the finals and Yury defeated Yury in the consolations.
Week 2 - Jan 14th - 17 Players
Good attendance tonight - Ron defeated Jesse, Glen, & Steve Brown; while Ed defeated Jeff, Yury & Fred, to set up an unexpected final where Ed defeated Ron... In the consolation final, Glen defeated Yury.
Week 1 - Jan 7th - 8 Players
Low turnout tonight... Steve Brown defeated Jesse for the win and Hugh defeated Yury in the consolation final.
